Every day, the earth receives
in the form of solar energy the equivalent of the electricity consumption
of 5.9 billion people for 27 years.
Photovoltaic technology enables us to turn this energy into electricity.
This transformation takes place without noise or gas emissions:
it is therefore totally clean. In addition, the fact that there is no
movement of mechanical parts means that it has an unparalleled level of
reliability (a module's average life expectancy is estimated at 30 years).
As a source of clean, renewable energy, photovoltaic energy fits perfectly into the current environmental
policies of the governments of the industrialised nations, which were formalised by the Kyoto agreements.
The result of this environmental policy, as set out in the "White Book", is a commitment by the countries in the Union to produce 12%
of their energy from renewable sources in 2010 and consequently to reduce greenhouse gas emission levels.
Worldwide production of photovoltaic energy is therefore increasing rapidly.
